Day 1 – Which Flower Will Become an Image?

Creating a toMAgo image begins in a meadow full of spring flowers. Take a walk with me through the orchard where it all began.

A little bee diligently visits the yellow heads of dandelions while the sound of its buzzing is accompanied by birdsong.

It is spring. Meadows and orchards are in bloom. Most of these little flowers go unnoticed, as they are small and inconspicuous compared to cultivated flowers. Yet it is precisely these modest blossoms that become the main characters of toMAgo images!

Little flowers we hardly ever notice …

Which flowers are best suited for creating toMAgo images? This is a question participants often ask me during workshops. My answer is always the same: “Try it, play with it! Give every flower a chance!” Over the years, I have developed personal preferences for certain flowers—but that is me, and you are you. Try to discover your own favourite flower, one that will come to life in ballerinas’ dresses, cheerful and serious fairy-tale characters, and the most unusual animals …

Every part of this meadow has its own, different world …

Every day I observe new faces, new plants. Look—on the first day they appeared! Look at them, they are beautiful! Here, the daisies have arranged themselves so nicely—it suits them perfectly …

Useful and Important Tips

After our walk through the meadow, we bring home flowers in a bag. These must be carefully dried so they can remain part of a toMAgo image for a long time. In the following video, you can see how to:

  • bring freshly picked flowers home without damaging them
  • prepare elements for future images
  • properly arrange petals on newspaper
  • gently close the newspaper so as not to damage the petals
  • take care of the petals in the days that follow
  • separate the petals from the base

To conclude today’s topic, here are a few photographs taken during the filming of materials for this part of the workshop.
